It has long been the wish of Lama Zopa Rinpoche for there to be places around the world where senior Sangha and longtime senior students of the FPMT, can live in long term retreat or retirement. In order for this wish to become reality in the United States, Lama Zopa Rinpoche and the FPMT have made available a great majority of the land at Buddha Amitabha Pure Land for the purpose of establishing such a place.
Buddha Amitabha Pure Land is situated in a remote rural area of Washington State, and is a relatively new project of the FPMT. Our intention is to develop a small community of senior FPMT Sangha and lay students living in lifelong retreat. In the initial phase of development 5 retreat cabins and a caretaker cabin are being built to serve this purpose . These five students will be committing themselves to a retreat life. In Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s words, “where they can live and do their practice and retreat until they die”.
